Making Mental Health & Addiction Recovery Available to Lower-Income Communities

Addiction can affect anyone—and no matter your financial situation, you should be able to get quality treatment. Walden, with locations throughout Maryland, is proud to accept Medicaid for our holistic and effective drug and alcohol addiction recovery program.

The duration of someone’s addiction, the substances they use, and the structure of their home life are important factors in deciding the best type of treatment. At Walden, we offer both inpatient and outpatient care so everyone in our program can access the type of treatment they need.

We help those struggling with:

At Charlotte Hall our Harford County, our inpatient treatment centers, we offer an intensive recovery program for patients whose needs include on-site medical care and more intensive services. Some choose an inpatient stay due to the benefits of a structured program in a safe place removed from the demands and pressures of a person’s day-to-day living situation. While it is not easy to be away from family or work, an inpatient stay can genuinely ground a person’s recovery with important tools and skills for moving forward. From detox to structured recovery programs to post-treatment support, we provide the help someone struggling with intense symptoms of substance use disorder needs.

Part of recovery is developing a strong support network. Walden encourages family and positive peer involvement in the healing process. Our team invites parents, siblings, spouses, and children to visit with their loved ones in residence. We offer family and friends education and information sessions designed to help loved ones learn how to best help someone continue their recovery after rehab.

For patients who want to continue living at home, or who are transitioning from residential care, we offer a Partial Hospitalization Program. This level of care may be a good arrangement for someone who has personal or family duties they can’t fully leave behind but needs a highly supportive and structured recovery environment. While we don’t recommend PHP for everyone, it can be an important tool for those who have access to outside support systems to help them on their journey.

We know that just as no two people are the same, neither are any two addictions. Walden’s team provides personalized care based on each patients’ goals, personality, and struggles. Our outpatient treatment allows each participant to structure their own care by choosing which programs to attend. We offer group and individual therapy, and our outpatient members work with a recovery coach to ensure their needs are fulfilled. Whether used as a continuation of care or a rehab entry point, outpatient treatment can provide valuable tools to anyone seeking to change their relationship with drugs and/or alcohol.

Proven Techniques to Achieve Sobriety

Walden offers the newest forms of evidence-based addiction therapy that have been scientifically proven to enhance the effectiveness of a patient’s recovery journey. Patients in all of our programs can access these essential resources as needed.

Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)

Substance use disorder is a brain-based disease. Alcohol and substances such as opioids, including heroin, fentanyl, and many prescription drugs, change the way the brain works. In particular, opioids alter the way the brain’s pleasure and reward system functions. A person who tries to stop using can experience intense cravings due to these alterations, making the road to recovery challenging. There is good news: emerging research is documenting that the brain can heal.

A recovery plan incorporating Medication Assisted Recovery (Medication Assisted Treatment) provides therapy combined with prescribed and monitored medication that reduces the discomfort of cravings caused by biological changes to the brain. Our clinicians evaluate patients to determine whether they may benefit from buprenorphine or naltrexone as part of their recovery. The patient then decides if he or she would like to add a Medication-Assisted Treatment approach to their recovery plan.

Trauma-Informed Mental Health Care

We understand that depression, anxiety, and trauma can be at the root of substance use issues. Our team includes licensed mental health professionals and medication management support. Best practices are combined with a trauma-informed approach to treat the whole person.

Encouraging Wellness

As patients recover from addiction, we encourage them to rebuild their lives with healthy habits and an open mind to new strategies for self-care. Walden helps patients, past patients, and community members recovery healthy habits and try new approaches. Peer support groups, individual recovery coaching, and sober activities help participants forge an individualized path to ongoing recovery.
